Canada Day

Saturday, July 1

Canada Day celebrates Canadian Confederation on July 1, 1867, which united Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. It is also a day to remember the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and the lost children of Canada's Indian residential schools. This July 1st, consider wearing orange to celebrate Indigenous resilience and signify global citizens' ongoing commitment to reconciliation. In support of Indigenous peoples' wellbeing, 24-hour Residential School Crisis Line (1-866-925-4419) offers emotional support.

Pioneer Day

Monday, July 24

Pioneer Day is a state-wide holiday in Utah commemorating the arrival of Mormon pioneers, led by Brigham Young, who fled from religious persecution before settling in Utah in 1847. Fireworks and parades celebrate a day of religious freedom and pioneer spirit within the Latter-Day Saints community and beyond.

Disability Independence Day

Wednesday, July 26

Disability Independence Day recognizes the day that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law in 1990, which guaranteed equal opportunities for disabled Americans. It is also an important day of visibility for the many disabled people who still feel a discouraging lack of access to civil and financial opportunities.

National Chicken Wing Day

Saturday, July 29

Originally relegated to the far corners of the kitchen as material for chicken stock, chicken wings were born when Teressa Bellissimo (one of the owners of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo) cooked up a midnight snack for her son and his friends in 1964. Using only fried wings, butter, and hot sauce, she stumbled on a dish that would change American game day gastronomy forever. So this July 29, make them sweet, spicy or any way you want, but raise a glass and down a few wings to celebrate.
