Pride Month

Wednesday, June 1 - Thursday, June 30

LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is celebrated each June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the US. This month also recognizes the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and many others who comprise this vibrant global community--and their impact on history locally, nationally, and internationally. Festivities include parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and events which attract millions of participants around the world.

We wish you a safe and joyful Pride month!

Juneteenth nationally commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were now free. President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation became official two and a half years earlier, but had little impact until Union forces arrived to enforce the law and overcome resistance.
