As one of the largest privately held food and agribusiness companies in the United States, Simplot commercialized frozen french fries, serving as McDonald’s largest domestic supplier of potato products since 1967.

Dennis Group helped deliver a major expansion of Simplot’s Manitoba facility through the design and installation of two new production lines: one dedicated to fries and one dedicated to formed potato products. The installation featured new receiving, peeling, sorting, dicing, blanching, drying, frying, freezing, and packaging operations.

With the addition of the two new production lines, the french fry line is designed to handle a wide variety of cuts and shapes, both skin-on and skin-off, with a processing capacity of 150,000 lbs. per hour. The formed potato line offers similar flexibility, accommodating a range of products and ingredients with a 21,000 lbs. per hour capacity. Refrigeration is powered by single stage side-loaded compressors using R-717, delivering 1150 tons at -30°F, 1900 tons +20°F.

The entire facility, and its systems, were modeled in 3D for design reviews.
