Dennis Group performed energy audits and created masterplans for two Clif Bar’s facilities. The projects were directed toward investigating ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage at each facility.
Dennis Group identified low/no cost and high priority opportunities for both sites. Measures included compressed air leakage control, lighting controls, and HVAC system tuning. The upfront costs for these measures were typically lower than $20,000 with an average payback of 1 year.
Some medium cost measures were also recommended, such as the installation of an oven exhaust heat recovery and the replacement of the exhaust fans, which contributed to more substantial GHG emissions reductions.
The feasibility of implementing renewables was analyzed for each site, considering the usage of energy sources such as offsite solar, geothermal, and a combination of solar and wind energy.
The master plan path options that Dennis Group provided to Clif Bar, identified roughly $600,000 in annual energy savings and 6,193 MT CO2e in GHG reduction for the Indianapolis site, and $875,000 in annual energy savings and 4,113 MT CO2e in annual GHG reduction for the Twin Falls site.
