Major Expansion on 35-Acre Site

450,000 SF

Dennis Group developed a plan for phased expansion of Malt-O-Meal’s Asheboro facility. The 200,000 SF building addition was constructed of pre-cast and cast-in-place
concrete, as well as structural steel. A 20 ft. high retaining wall mitigates the elevation difference between the rail siding and remainder of the site.

The project also included installation of two high-speed cereal production and packaging lines, new utility infrastructure; and new ingredient handling systems for both liquid and dry commodities received by truck or rail.

Sugar is transferred to two 250,000 lbs. silos and then scalped to remove large clumps before being transferred to two use bins. One bin feeds a sugar mill that produces powdered sugar for a coating line, while the second bin feeds a continuous evaporator for syrup production. All transfer systems are dilute phase pneumatic (pressure
and vacuum). A continuous dense phase system is used to transfer friable whole grains.
