To meet demand in a category that has been posting double digit growth year-over-year, Sabra built a brand-new facility that was designed with future growth in mind. Dennis Group has been the exclusive design-build partner for the greenfield facility and each expansion.
The original 115,000 SF facility included a 40,000 SF finished goods distribution center and featured eight production lines to process and pack more than 100 SKUs.
Since then, three subsequent expansions have been completed. The latest expansion of 106,475 SF doubled the capacity of the plant and was completed within 16 months and more than $1M under budget.
With close coordination the finished goods warehouse secured its occupancy certificate months ahead of schedule, saving money by eliminating the use of third-party vendors.
Sustainability also played an important role in the overall design. Construction materials were sourced from
recycled content, a massive water collection system allows for the reuse of 500,000 gallons of rain and process water annually, and overall, the facility uses 44% less energy than the typical food processing facility.
The project was seeking LEED silver, but was able to surpass expectations and obtain LEED
gold new construction certification – the first for a manufacturer in Virginia. The team has a spotless record of zero incidents during 642,000 work hours across three projects spanning four and a half years
